|The Chestnut Centre
The Chestnut Centre, founded in 1984, is set in the hills of the Peak District National Park and houses Europe's largest collection of multi-specied otters, owls including Britain's only pair of Giant Otters.|
The founding proprietors are keen conservationists who have, for over thirty years, been concerned in particular with the status of the otter (in this country and abroad) and the Barn Owl, both of which are threatened species.
We have an ongoing breeding programme for all otters and owls whereby captive bred stock can be released either to supplement existing diminished numbers or re-establish a presence where they formally thrived but are no longer found.
Our award winning otter and owl enclosures are situated on an extensive circular nature trail which meanders through the historic wooded parkland laid out by previous occupiers of nearby Ford Hall. Wander along the tree lined walks and experience the close exciting proximity of this world of otters, owls, deer, badgers, foxes and many more native species in near natural surroundings.
Directions: The Chestnut Centre is well signposted with brown tourist signs from both Chapel en le Frith and Castleton.
